Once again Victor is leading the way to help drive positive change across the private aviation industry. In partnership with Air BP and BP Target Neutral, we have pro-actively launched a carbon-offsetting programme for customers that will not only offset the carbon emissions for the fuel used by Victor charters across Europe, but tangibly improve the livelihoods of local communities the world over.
How does it all work? In a nutshell:
- Flights booked through Victor with participating operators (using Air BP fuel) are eligible for carbon credits and labelled as such on our app, website, and quotes
- These credits guarantee that any carbon emissions are offset through investment in eight independently-regulated, carbon-reducing BP Target Neutral projects around the globe
- A record of carbon credits is added to a digital flight log that customers can access on a quarterly basis, and poses no extra cost to flyers. Check out how it works.
Spanning the installation of hydropower plants in rural China through biogas initiatives in Karnataka, India, all of the programme’s BP Target Neutral projects are selected by an independent forum, independently verified and rigorously monitored in line with the ICROA (International Carbon Reduction & Offset Alliance) Code of Best Practice. The projects are chosen based on their contribution to UN Sustainable Development Goals, which includes their contribution to reducing carbon emissions and improving livelihoods for the communities they are based in through significant educative, economic and social benefits.
So, Victor’s offset programme offers further value to customers for using private charter to meet their business and other commitments. Beyond this, it’s an instant opportunity for aircraft operators to advance their carbon reduction plans ahead of several important industry deadlines.
Various business and general aviation bodies have pro-actively imposed targets in line with CORSIA, the International Civil Aviation Organization’s (ICAO) global scheme for carbon offsetting and reduction. These include trying to achieve carbon neutral growth by 2020, make 2% improvements in fuel efficiency (on average per year) between now and 2020, and ensure a 50% cut in total emissions by 2050, relative to 2015.
By launching a carbon offset programme now, Victor will ensure that a significant number of private aircraft operators are well positioned, and supported, to proactively get ahead of the environmental curve, take action on emissions, and help advance meaningful industry change. Indeed, Victor’s ambition is to use carbon neutral fuel for 100% of flights by 2020.
The programme’s launch follows a hugely successful trial phase in recent weeks. Over half of Victor and Air BP’s 20 biggest operator customers have already signed up (including Austria’s GlobeAir, the world’s largest Citation Mustang operator) whilst over three-quarters of customers opted in to the trial have received quotes for flights where carbon emissions for the fuel used will be offset via BP Target Neutral.
These are promising beginnings and we’re really excited about what comes next. Alongside our partners, we are taking an important step on the long-term path towards a truly low carbon future. There is much work to do but we are proud to be making a positive move right now. It will undoubtedly prepare us to take far bigger steps in the years ahead.
