History

Cannes Mandelieu Airport was built and funded by private individuals in 1930. The airport was commandeered by the government before World War II and was partially destroyed during the war, but has since been rebuilt.As commercial aviation grew, more landing areas were required, however the topography of Cannes made this difficult for the larger jets and so nearby Nice Airport was built to accommodate larger commercial aeroplanes, leaving Cannes-Mandelieu Airport to handle smaller business jets and private charter jets.
