History

The airport is one of the oldest in the world, having been established in 1914. During World War I, the airport was a squadron station and during World War II, it was seized by the German army. The airport was attacked on many occasions and eventually fell into Allied hands, after being completely destroyed by the departing German military. After much reconstruction, the airport was handed back to the French Air force, with the airfield being rebuilt and reopened in 1949. The airport remained as a military airfield until 2016.
