History

The first flight from Dublin Airport in its current guise took place in 1940, although an airfield existed at the site at an earlier date. World War II halted much of the commercial flights, but shortly afterwards these resumed. The 1950’s and 60’s saw growth and expansion at the airport. This led to a new terminal being opened in 1972 to cope with demand. In 1993, the airport signed a bilateral agreement with the United States to fly planes directly from Dublin to the US,which culminated in an increase in transatlantic flights and destinations.
