History

Exeter International Airport opened in 1937 from tented terminals until a permanent structure was built. During the Second World War, the airport was commandeered by the RAF and was integral to the Battle of Britain. US Air forces also used the airport for a D-Day troop base. After the war, the airport was transferred to civil use in 1947. A new terminal building was opened in the 1980’s and various other extensions took place to ensure that the airport was important in the west of England. In 2007, the airport was sold to a private firm.
