History
The airport was built in 1923 as a military airport. A commercial passenger terminal was not built until after the Second World War in 1949. Until 1960 it was the only passenger airport serving Kiev until the larger Boryspil International Airport was built.
The airport has seen somewhat of a renaissance in recent years with the introduction of round the clock flights from low cost carriers. A new terminal was built in 2012 for international flights and some domestic flights.
