History
Los Angeles Airport opened on its current site in 1928, known then as Mines Field. The airport was used as a military base during World War II. Following the war, commercial services resumed in 1946 and a terminal and control tower was built in 1961.
By the 1980’s, the airport had domestic and international terminals and a new control tower was installed in 1996. Several expansion plans have met opposition from local residents, and so it was finally decided to remodel the existing infrastructure. Several movies have been filmed at LAX, including ‘Catch Me If You Can’ starring Leonardo di Caprio.
