History

Marseille Airport was built in 1922. By the end of the 1920’s, several destinations were available to fly to from Marseille, including North Africa. During the Second World War, the German Air Force used Marseille airport and it was almost destroyed in their retreat in 1944. It was not until 1961 that commercial air traffic resumed, which coincided with the building of a new terminal. This was then replaced in 1992 and 1998 by 2 new terminals to address the increasing passenger numbers.
