History

The field was originally created in 1911 and was not fully utilised until 1920 when the US postal service started using the field as a base. The airport was expanded and given the name Woodward Field. In 1930 the airport was renamed Salt Lake City Municipal Airport and the first terminal was built in 1933. A 3rd runway was added during American Air Force occupation during World War II. A new terminal was added in 1960 due to increase of civilian traffic after the war and in 1968 it became Salt Lake City International Airport. Further expansions have occurred in recent years.
