History

The first passenger aircraft landed in Samedan in 1938 but then was suspended during the Second World War. Civilian flights resumed in 1950 after Samedan was taken over by the federal government. The Swiss Air Ambulance started to use the airport as a base in 1976 as an operational base and to expand the airfield’s facilities. The airport buildings are being redeveloped and are scheduled for completion in 2021.
