Lefay, Lake Garda, Italy
A unique, family-designed eco-resort that’s all about sustainability and high-class wellbeing, Lefay encapsulates the Italian lust for life complete with picturesque views of the mountains and the lake. It’s also the first Italian company in the tourism sector to sign an agreement with the environment ministry aimed at neutralising CO2 emissions.
Bürgenstock Resort, Lake Lucerne, Switzerland
Perched 500 metres above the lake, the Bürgenstock Resort is almost entirely carbon-neutral thanks to a unique energy system that uses lake water operated by 100 percent hydroelectric power. It includes four hotels, a health and medical centre, apartments with hotel service, business facilities, a 10,000m sq Alpine Spa, numerous restaurants and bars – and that breath-taking mountain landscape.
La Granja, Ibiza, Spain
A nine-room restored farmhouse that espouses the White Isle’s original bohemian vibe, this Design Hotels project markets itself as a members-only retreat. In partnership with Friends of a Farmer – a local organisation that promotes sustainable crop-growing, as well as art and music – profits are fed back into community sustainability projects.
