History

Al Maktoum Airport opened in 2010 with only one runway and cargo flights. It wasn’t until February 2011 that the airport was certified to accept passenger aircraft, but only with limited numbers. For commercial flights, the first passenger flights occurred in 2013. The airport is currently limited for passenger services until the full expansion plans are realised.
