The airport originally opened in 1925 as Gauthier’s Flying Field. From 1953, the airport was bought and owned by George J. Priester who, over the next 30 years, developed and expanded the airport. Following its sales to the local city of Prospect Heights, the airport was renamed Palwaukee Municipal Airport. In October 2006, the airport was renamed again to Chicago Executive Airport.
