History

The airport officially opened in 1939, however regular flights only commenced in 1946. A tarmac runway was not installed until 1960. A new terminal was constructed in the early 2000’s and then in 2012, the runway was extended to accommodate larger aircraft.Taxiways to the runway were also resurfaced and realigned, whilst a new drainage system was also built. New airfield ground lighting and navigational aids were also installed.
