History

The airport opened in 1937, and concrete runways were added during the occupation of the island during World War II. The runway has been extended many times over the years in order to accommodate commercial flights. The original terminal was built in 1937 and extended in 1976. A new departures terminal was opened in 1997. The original terminal was knocked down in 2014 and a new terminal is now in place at the airport.
