History

The airport was originally established in 1935 but was commandeered during World War II as an RAF base. Following the war, the airport became a centre for aviation education, charter and maintenance facilities and was the second busiest airfield in the UK by 1968. In 1981, the airport was sold to a private company and then again in 2007. It was renamed London Oxford Airport in 2009, because although it is 60 miles from central London, the transport links to and from the capital ensure a fast journey.
