History

In 1953, the Spanish government identified the need for an airport to serve the city of A Coruña. The original airport was quite sparse, but then in 1962 a new terminal building was built, and a new road connecting the airport to cities of A Coruña and Santiago de Compostela. The construction projects were completed in 1963, and the airport was opened to commercial traffic. A customs office was built in 1979 and an air traffic control room was added in 1990. During the mid 90’s, a new terminal was built, as well as expansion of the airport. In 2001, the airport installed new jet bridges and a cargo terminal.
