Nationals of Bulgaria arriving from risky countries are requested to observe a 14-day quarantine period.

History

Sofia Airport was first conceived in 1937 and a passenger waiting room was opened in 1939. Finally in 1941, a fully paved runway was built. During the Second World War, the airport was used by the military. A new passenger terminal opened in 1947. Several extensions in the 1960’s and 70’s were made to accommodate a growing number of passengers. Further work occurred in the late 1990’s and 2000’s including a new Terminal 2 which opened in 2006. The airport is affected by its location within a fairly mountainous region of Bulgaria and often suffers from fog. In this instance, flights are diverted to other airports or even to other countries.
