History

Vnukovo Airport was originally opened for military operations during the Second World War and was opened in July 1941. It was not until after the war that the airport was used for civilian service. The airport was later expanded and prepared for the Summer Olympic Games held in Moscow in 1980. A significant reconstruction and development program of the airport took place in 2003 and in the next few years, several expansions took place. These included 2 new terminals and a rail link.
