 Passengers from all other countries not listed above are not allowed to enter Italy.

- nationals or residents of Italy;
- passengers travelling on business;
- passengers travelling for urgent health reasons;
- healthcare personnel travelling on duty;
- passengers travelling for emergency reasons;
- passengers returning via Italy to their country of residence;

 Passengers allowed to enter Italy must present a completed self-declaration form to the transporting carrier; and
- must communicate their entry to the Department of Prevention at local health units (ASL) of the entrance district; and
- are subject to health surveillance and isolation for 14 days. This does not apply to passengers traveling on business if their stay in Italy does not exceed 72 hours and if granted, the additional 48 hours of a justified extension for specific needs.

History

The airport opened in 1924, as the regions first airport. During World War II it was seized by the Allies and used by the US Air Force as a military airfield.After the war it was turned back over to civilian use. The airport had outgrown its surroundings by the late 1940s and so a redeveloped Catania Airport opened in 1950. After a period of sustained growth, the airport required further expansion in 1981. A further new terminal was built in 2007 to cope with increasing passenger numbers, and 2 additional terminals were opened in 2018.
